Chapter four

*So is this one :)*

Chapter 4

As we walked to the gymnasium I noticed everything was really quiet. I mean, yes, classes were going on, but usually about 15- 20 people are out of them wandering around, gossiping, or coming out of the bathrooms. Instead of all of those things, the whole hallway was empty except Griffin, Asher, and me. I kept thinking weird, maybe an assembly is going on or something. In about five seconds I got my answer. It was in neither of those categories. It was how do I put this? What happened was that the people that killed my father had somehow gotten into the building of some of the most protected walls in America. After all, this is a school for the rich (and smart, but that's not why it’s decked out with security cameras).

When we get the gym everyone is laying motionless starring at a screen. All three of us huddle together and start to walk where all 600 students were sitting (Asher in the front, me behind him, and Griffin taking up the rear). As we walk to the first person, I think that was name Elizabeth a girl in the ninth grade, all of us at once see that she wasn't starring at the screen on the wall she had her eyes closed. The next thing we see are that her hands are bound to her seat and that her head and body are made to stay up by some concoction that climbed up the back of her spine. As we continue to walk in formation we see that everyone else is in the exact same circumstances.That’s when I saw my step dad. He seemed the same as everyone else, but he kept moaning like he was in a great deal of pain. Wow this is really weird.

I couldn't help but think that maybe this was some weird and deranged new psychology study that had to be tested on the most eligible kids in America and their parents, but I knew better. Oh god why is this happening? I asked Him without even thinking about double thinking that. See ever since God let him... it still pains me to say just give me a second... my father, die I haven't spoken to Him. By golly! I will not start now! Where was He when that happened? Where was He when my mom got married to a man she barely new? No not going there today. That’s when I saw the black spots daring me to fall to the ground. There’s too much on your plate, Cam, I said to myself. Just breathe in slow calming breathes.

When I finally calmed down something made a swooshing sound to my right. Then to my left, but in a flash I see someone come up behind Asher, Griffin, and me. In about less than six seconds were all tied together or so I thought. Asher gasps and I just stand frozen like I did just a few hours ago when I first laid eyes on those sparkling blue eyes.

*OHHH left you hanging! Bet you didn't see that one coming!*

Chapter Three

*lalala... Sorry it's a short one*

Chapter 3

When the nurse came in and asked, “Bad breakfast,” She made it sound more like a statement than a question. As if it happened every day, which I'm sure it did. When I stopped puking up everything I had in my stomach, the nurse came over and told me to sit on a cot and to just relax. She came over checked my temperature and asked me if I had felt bad at all during the day.

So when I said, “No, Ma'm." She looked like she didn't believe me, but how could she tell on me if I give her nothing to tell on?

"Okay. I think you're fine, you can stay at school, but take it easy."

"I promise, I won't be taking it hard," I said scoffing.

"Tell Mrs. Lane that you have to take it easy in gym today, special orders from the nurse. Oh! And no sports!"

"Thank you, Miss Copper."

"You're welcome, dear. Take it slow!"

Then I walk out the door greeted by both Asher and Griffin both asking the same question, "Are you okay?"

"Yes, I'm fine let's go to gym shall we?"

"Okay, let's go, but if you-,"Asher didn't even get to finish his sentence before I cut in.

"I'm fine. Let's just move on, okay? Please?," When I only got unsure glances I say, "If you guys don't agree with me, Asher, I will make you both watch Degrassi with me for the rest of the year."

When I said that, I heard a lot of, "What ever you want, Cam!" and "You do look a lot better."

"That's what I thought."

Chapter two

*you may be thinking how is she posting so fast? The reason is because I have already written the first five chapters!*

Chapter Two

"This is the Grand Hallway of the Congleant Academy," I tell Griffin as we walk through the school. Right now I'm missing Physics II. We had a big test today and I forgot to study for it so this tour guide thing is serving more than one purpose.

"Well it sure is grand. For more than one reason that is," Griffin said looking down directly at me smiling with that nice smile of his. His hand brushes against mine. Not once, but twice. So when the third time came along I grabbed his hand and our fingers intertwined. We don't say anything else that's really important. We just smile at each other. So when the third bell for the day rings, we both jump. It felt like everyone and their mother came out of those classrooms. Literally.

"Is today bring your parent to school day or something?" asked Griffin. I totally forgot about Career day!

"Um something like that. Today is career day which reminds me, my stepdad will be here soon! What's your schedule?

"Spanish II, Physics II, AP Language, Lunch, Gym, Money Management, and World History." He said.

"Okay we almost have the same schedule. I did Money Management last semester."

"So off to Language?" He asks.

In my best tour guide voice I say, "Right this way, please."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Class turn to page 233 in your literature text books," said Ms. Campobello. No body really knows if she's married or not. She doesn't wear a ring, but she always talks about this mystery man. She claims they have been together for a really long time, though she never says anything else about the subject. Most think she's married, but that she doesn't want to show a public display of affection. She's one of those teachers that scold you for kissing your boyfriend on school grounds. Man, she needs a life.
Griffin picked a seat right behind me, so if he had a question or something he could ask me about it without being noticed. Asher and I have the exact same schedule and I always sit behind him no matter what. No one knows what Asher's parents do, but no body will even try to mess with him. Some say that his dad is so rich that they have eyes on him all over the city. You may be wondering why don't you look him up on Google? Well, the last person who looked up his parents moved away from NYC the next week. That is NOT an exaggeration. I mean he won't even tell me what the H.H. stands for. I guess everyday to see how much closer I am to finding out his "big" secret. So far, every day I guess only it seems like the answer is even farther than the last day. Though I vowed I would never give up, I don't know so much about that now.
When something falls on my lap, I come back into focus. It's a note from........... Griffin! It said:
Hey this stuff is pretty complicated. Do you think you could tutor me?
-Gruff
My heart starts to pound, just the thought of Griffin and me together. Studying. Alone. Together. For like at least an hour! At first I couldn't think of something besides, why don't we just get married now? Or other crazy things. So that's why I thought this was suitable:
Sure. When and where?
-C
When I pass the note our fingers brush. In that brief second, my whole body feels like it just got electrocuted. I got goose bumps all over my arms. The hairs on the back of my neck stand up and the tips of my fingers still tingled after we touched. The next minute the note was passed once again. This time it said:
How about at the library? After school?
-Griff
I was so excited that I didn't even see Ms. Campobello standing over me, with that scolding frown on her face. She says, "Miss Munroe, I do not allow note passing in my class. So if you don't mind I would like to take that from you." Since we didn't say anything inappropriate I give her the note with a reassuring smile. When she read the note out loud all eyes weren't on the speaker; they were on Griffin and me. Isn't it always nice for there to be someone else to help take the blame with you? I turn around to look at Griffin and he's just sitting there with a cocky smile on his face. When he sees that I'm there looking at him he raises an eyebrow and just starts to beam. I thought if he's so confident that we won't get in trouble then I will be too. So when his cockiness rubs off on me, I start to notice that everyone has stopped looking at us and now have their attention on the teacher. Ms. Campobello had a scowl on her face so deep; it looked like it could be permanent. Obviously she was angry to know that we were just making a study date. Not anything juicy to her satisfaction, apparently. When the fourth bell rang, it seemed like everyone was happy to get out of there.
As I walk out, Asher, not once but TWICE in one day grabs me by the elbow and says, "Why do you keep wanting to hang out with this guy? You don't even know him!"
That makes me stop. Is he really mad at me for messing up our routine or is it something more? So that was why I said, "Asher, I'm a big girl. I know how to take care of myself."
"I know who you are; I just don't want you to get hurt, okay?" He said after some hesitation. I just can't get the feeling that it's something more than that, but after that he storms off into to the cafeteria before I got to ask what’s really bothering him.
After Asher ran away Griffin came up behind me and said, "You never confirmed our date, you know."
So I say with a nice little smile, "Of course, Griffin, I would love to do that. Hey do you know why Asher is acting so weird lately? It's like ever since you got here he's been acting really strange."
"Well do you really want to know?"
"Of course I do!" I say, because I hate it when people are mad at me. I like to get to the bottom of it so we can straighten things out. "Asher is my best friend. He's been so ever since we were eight."
"Well, I think, he wants to be more than friends, Cam."
"Oh, well, that’s impossible. He would never like me in that way. I mean we used to have little sleepovers and play dates. I mean they weren't like real sleepovers. We would just get in our pajamas and watch a movie on the floor. It was totally harmless, I swear!"
"I believe you, I do. I just don't think he likes it that someone else has come and has shown interest in his 'girl’,” When Griffin said 'girl' I stopped in mid track, seriously, one foot in the air. I mean why would Asher like me that way? I have never given him signals, ever! I haven't even thought of him in that way. I have never pictured us together forever, like I have Griffin. I felt sick.
Really irritated now I say,” Come on let's go to lunch." I start to walk off and Griffin is right by my side the whole time. When we walk into the cafeteria I hear Griffin swallow hard and I look over fast enough to see his mouth open wide, but as quick as it was there it was gone. I mean I can understand why. The cafeteria is more like a ball room. There are chandeliers hanging over every table (and there are like 50 tables), all of them on. There isn't any lunch line. What happens is you find the table you want, sit down, and people come to serve you. Every day there are hundreds of options to have. At this school there is no "pizza day" or "meatloaf Monday" or anything like that. No at my school you may only have what billionaires feed their children, which apparently consists of steak, ribs, vegetarian steak, and fruit and vegetables freshly picked from the school's "garden" just a few hours away. When I say garden, I mean plantation that stretches for many acres. When you're in fourth and fifth grade, the school takes those classes to the plantation for a field trip.
"This is the cafeteria?" Griffin asked.
"Yeah, big huh?" I say in response. I was to busy trying to look for Asher, to see if he was okay. If he was, I would go and take him to talk in private. I just had to ask him myself. When I saw him I made a beeline for it. Griffin left eating my dust realizes I left and came running after me.
"Hey, Asher," I say. "Um are you okay, because it didn't really look like it back there in the, um, hallway."
"Why don't you ask your new boyfriend?," He said starting to stand.
"Well first of all, he is not my boyfriend and second I think I deserve an explanation for your weird behavior today."
"Oh you want an explanation for my behavior? Cammie, what about you? Ever since you've laid eyes on him you've been acting like a love sick puppy."
When he said that, I started to feel worse than I had before when Griffin called me Asher's 'girl'. So when I say,"I think I'm gonna be sick." Asher says, "Stop the act Cammie."
"Asher, I don't think she's lying, man." Griffin said.
"How would you know, huh? You've only known Cammie for nine years. Oh wait! That's me!"
"Asher, I'm not kidding. Will you guys take me to the nurse, please?" I say practically on the verge of tears, for more than one reason too.
Griffin says," Sure, Cam, let's go." When he turns around to scowl at Asher, I think that's when it clicked that I was so not kidding and that I was about to throw up on my new Uugs I got for my birthday. So Asher ran off after us, picked me up, and carried me to the nurse’s office, which was conveniently just across the hall. I got there just in time over the trash can to barf up my double shot soy latte and blueberry muffin. Griffin and Asher were there the whole time to keep my hair back and to talk to me in a soothing voice. Well, mostly Asher pulled my hair back and Griffin gave me encouraging words. I guess you could call it a team effort.
Chapter one
*Ok here's my book, I don't care if you like it or not, just as long as you're reading it ;)*
Chapter One
I remember it like it was yesterday, even though it was really nine years ago. It was a cold and snowy Christmas. All the hustle and bustle of a big city like Chicago can be kind of a scary thing, but never to me. I loved that city like I love my own mother, but things always change sooner or later. I still don't know which one I like better. Sooner or later? Though it doesn't matter, because that day God picked sooner. So when sooner came, I didn't like it. And that is why Christmas is my least favorite day of the year. Some say Christmas is supposed to be filled with joy, presents, and love, but that day I got anything but those three things. I got the death of my father, or should I say murder?
Some said they were sorry for me, some said that they gave me my condolences, and some said nothing to me at all. Ever again, but it wasn't their fault. Nope not there's at all, it was no ones fault, but my mothers. Because the next month we were packed and moved to the next biggest city in America.
~~~~~~~~~~~~

I love the fresh smell of coffee in the morning. Especially when the coffee is made by the coffee shop I live three doors down from in a town I like to call "The Big Apple". Even though I'm only sixteen and I am living in New York City, my mom still trusts me to walk three doors down, go into the shop, wait until my best friend gets off work, and then walk with him to our exclusive boarding school that either only the richest or smartest kids in the area get to go to. So when I walk through the doors to my favorite breakfast place of all time, I'm extremely surprised to see a god to be cleaning one of the tables. I mean he seriously looks like a god. He has dark-brown wavy-ish hair, dazzling blue eyes that would make someone in Jersey stop and stare, AND he shows a hint of perfectly straight, white teeth that probably make your dentist's teeth look like they grew up without any loving parents that wouldn't pay for dental care. I hesitate at the door and just stand and stare at him, my mouth gaping open, and my body totally frozen by the sight him. So when he turns around to look at me apparently the feeling is mutual. We both just stand there looking at each other like complete idiots. So when my best friend in the whole world, who looks a lot like Munro Chambers (and also works at the shop and lets me get some free coffee once in a while [don't tell ANYONE though!]) says, "So Griffin have you met Cammie yet?"

And this is when Griffin says, "No, I don't think we've been properly introduced."

I start to stumble and make noises that sound more like Gibberish instead of the English I have known how to speak since I was one. Asher saves me by saying, "Cam this is Griffin, Griffin this is Cam."

And finally the "words" that I so cleverly thought of a few second ago start to pour out. "Hi, Griffin, um… Did you just move here? When did you start to work here? How come I haven't seen you around here at all? OH! I love the necklace you're wearing. I love the whole surfer dude kind of style. It's quite cute despite what other people say." And I hate to say it, but I just keep rambling on and on about basically nothing and finally I think of the best question so far.

I walk over to the counter where Asher is manning the cash register. Griffin is well out of earshot so I feel comfortably saying, "Why in the world did you not tell me a TOTAL hottie is going to be working here? How could you be such a jerk?"

"Well I don't see the appeal. I certainly don't think he looks 'hot'."

"Of course YOU don't Asher, but trust me if you were a girl you would have been as speechless as I was when I saw him."

"Oh about that, the whole gaping mouth look on you doesn't look too good. Just to let you know."

So just when I'm about to come up with the best comeback in the world, someone says behind me, “Not that I was eavesdropping or anything, but I thought she looked perfectly fine when she walked through those doors."

And when I think this guy couldn't get hotter, he just DID! I'm thinking how in the world is that possible? I mean he just complimented me when I looked HORRIBLE and he's defending me! I just can't help but think we're going to be together forever! I hear a loud CRASH! from right in front of me. The cash register fell off the counter and is now laying just millimeters from my feet. So when I look up I'm not at all surprised to see it's Asher's turn to have the gaping mouth. Instead of bursting out into laughter, which might result in snorting in front of the hottest guy on the planet, I just get a smug little smile, but on the inside I'm beaming. I mean two points for Griffin! He complimented me twice (I don't care what you say but I'm counting when he openly stared at me like I did to him and when he just complimented me.) AND what he made Asher just do. I just wanted to scream I love you! So when Griffin says,” So Cammie may I accompany you and Asher here to school this morning?"

I scream,"YES!" But we also hear someone else scream, "NO!" Guess who it was. The one and only H.H. Asher the Sixth, I mean I can understand that Asher wouldn't want to mess up our routine, but this could be my future soul mate! He can make the sacrifice!

So when I say, “Oh, Griffin, don't mind him. Of course you can come with us! So are you going to our school now? What group are you? I'm in the rich group. So is Asher." OK so you may be thinking how can she be in that group if her father is dead? Or maybe is her mom that successful? The answer to the second question is HECK NO! My mother doesn't work at all. I mean she doesn't even cook or clean. She says that's what the maids and the butlers are for. So if you haven't guessed she is a stay at home mom. The answer to the first question is: My dad is dead, yes, but my mom, once we moved to New York, met this really rich guy who like invented the first working robot or something. And ever since then they have been inseparable.

"Oh really?" Griffin said. "I guess I'm in that group. My dad was the guy who invented the first Microsoft Company."

"OMIGOSH! Your dad is Bill gates?!?!?"

"Oh no, I wish though." Griffin said with one of those smiles that could melt just about any person’s heart. "My dad was one of the guys who HELPED make Microsoft. Billy paid them over a hundred dollars an hour. So when you work over a hundred hours a week, things start to add up."

And before I could say anything else to Griffin, Asher comes up, grabs my elbow, and starts to pull me away. I'm thinking this better be good. Asher says, "Cam, we cannot walk this guy to school. We know nothing about him."

I say, “Well actually we know several things."

"Like what?"

"For starters he has a great smile, he works out, he looks good in that uniform, and his dad works for one of the richest guys in the world !"

"But that’s not enough," says Asher. "We don't really know that much, he could be some axe murder or something!"

"Okay for starters I highly doubt he's an axe murder and second, why would this place higher someone without checking their background first?" I ask. "They checked yours!"

"Well that's different. He said that his dad is really smart and into computers. He could have altered his records or something."

Before I can say anything Griffin comes up behind me, puts his warm hands on my shoulders and talks right next my ear and says, "Hey, you guys ready for school?"

"Oh, yeah! I'll be your guide for the day!" He gives me a wicked smile as if to say I love that idea! which is fine because I loved that idea too.
