Chapter 10
We walk into the room and a dozen questions started running through my head when I saw…It. Most of them consisted of why was I never informed that I had a twin?
The girl that looked to familiar was the first to move. She stuck out her and to me and said, “Hello, my name is Elise... and I guess you could say we’ve been separated since birth.” I turn my eyes down to her hand and just stare at it.
It felt like time and everything else in the world froze in that moment, while everyone stood there watching my reaction. Finally, I was the first to move.
“Chase,” I say pointing to an open, but secluded area by the stairs, “May I talk to you for a minute?” Without waiting for a response I walk over to that space and don’t turn around until I’m positioned in an area where I felt comfortable.
“Yes?” He asked, as if everything was normal. As if I didn’t just find out the fact that I had a sister, who happened to be my twin and just everyday you get kidnapped by people.
“Why? Why now? Why was she taken away? Why-“ Chase stopped me there.
“There are many things that you don’t know about her and this… organization…”
“What organization? This is a terrorist group!”
“Which you will soon be apart of,” he mumbled.
“What!”
“You will join us Cameron. Things would go even-“
“Don’t say easier! I’m sick of people saying that! I don’t even know what those things are!”
“They would be even easier though. I promise you if you join us now a lot less damage would be done to you, your family, and your boyfriend,” He said the word boyfriend as if it was bitter soap in his mouth. “Speaking of such matters turn around.”
Asher stood there with a face of disbelief and anger all tied in one, “Don’t do it, Cam. Just don’t,” with that he ran up the stairs, I followed and looked for him, and somehow we got lost from each other in the maze of a building it was. I don’t know how long I searched for him, but I was not going to lose the one thing that stayed by me through this whole experience.
“Cam,” I heard his voice from inside my mind I knew he had to be close, somewhere very close. By then I was on the last level before the roof. I searched there and finally climbed up. That’s where I saw him sitting on the edge glaring down.
“Finally,” he said not turning his head around. “I was afraid I’d have stay up here all night.”
“Sorry, my hide-n-seek skills aren’t particularly up to date.” I walk over and sit next to him. He turned his head to me and his black hair brushed mine slightly.
“Promise me something, please.” He looked at me and I could tell all joking was beside us for the moment.
“What?”
Whatever he was about to ask of me was put to a stop. Griffin had come up on the roof, “Finish your conversation, but I’ll be standing here for the rest of it.”
“Um okay? Well Cam I wanted to make a promise,” He whispers in my ear, “you and me. If you don’t join them, whatever they are, I’ll do everything and anything to get you out of this place.” I had no other way to respond except by hugging him. He pulled me close and kissed me. I didn’t have to see his face to know that Griffin was infuriated. I ignored that fact as Asher pulled me up off the ground and started to lead me, hands locked, over to Griffin.
“Yes?” Asher asked in a cocky yet polite voice.
“You both are needed down stairs, now.” He said through clenched teeth. Why was he so mad? Oh let him be mad! He only cares about himself anyway.
“What are we needed for?” I try to ask in a nice voice, but Griffin, as if I didn’t say anything at all, walks down from the roof and starts to maneuver himself down the stairs. Asher looks at me cocks his head to the left and leads the way, making me take up the rear of the group.
Soon we reach the bottom level where everyone is standing in a big huddle. We could hear whispers, but all that stopped when Griffin thought in his head we’re back down here! The rainbows, as I have decided to call them, all turned their heads towards Asher and me.
“Hope you all had a nice chat,” said Chase.
“Yeah nice chat indeed,” commented Brady with a snicker afterwards. What did they think we talked about? Oh well.
“Why did you want us down here?” I could tell that Asher’s patience with the group was dangling on a tiny piece of thread. I grabbed his hand and squeezed it slightly. He looks down at me and I could see the anger in his eyes.
“Well my little chicks! Did you not hear the bell? Naturally it is time for supper! Right this way please,” said Chase. He walked in the opposite direction as the stairs. Everyone followed besides Asher and me.
When everyone saw we didn’t move Henry shouted, “Let’s go!” I think that was the first thing I ever heard him say since they barged into my life without asking… When was it? 2 or 3 days ago? Asher looked at me with an uneasy glance, he squeezes my hand though and leads me where everyone else was.
Chase takes everyone through double doors that opened into a long corridor that eventually lead to another set of double doors. This time when Chase opened them nothing even remotely close to a hallway was there. The room was big and circular, 10 large rectangular tables were scattered and set with silverware and plates, and there was a long line filled with food galore. I was so hungry that I didn’t even notice the look on Asher’s and Aubrey’s faces. I run to the food buffet and grabbed a banana.
As soon as I bite into to it I turn to look at Asher telling him to come and eat. That was when I saw the sheer look of horror on his face. Next thing I knew my vision started to blur, the edges of my awareness started to turn black, and my leg couldn’t support my weight anymore. Asher was by my side in an instant. The last thing I remembered before I went under was Asher yelling in my ear (me no response), Aubrey crying, and Griffin standing over me with a grin on his face. After that everything went black.
